Following the meltdown at Chernobyl, entire villages located within the 30 km exclusion zone were bulldozed then buried. 

A large trench would be dug out in front of each house, then the house itself would be bulldozed and pushed into the trench, then the trench would be filled with earth and the soil on top would be flattened.
